Cable Systems in Multi-purpose or Shared Structures

HV and EHV cable systems are increasingly being installed in tunnels and bridges. Often they share these structures with other utilities. Shared structures offer some unique opportunities for route selection as well as reducing cost and time required for project implementation. However, the management of access, maintenance and repairs could be more complicated. The technical, administrative and legal issues to be considered during the planning and construction phases are discussed in detail. Examples of existing installations are included in the TB.
